Botcon 2010 inspired: Universe 2.0 G2 style Starscream
This summer like always was filled with a few Transformers conventions, TFcon for the Canadian in you or how about Auto Assembly for our mates across the water. Here in the states our big giant robo love gathering is Botcon. If you go to Botcon you know the prime prize that we all go for, the convention exclusives and the box set that has all the robo collectors drooling for new plastic and die cast metal like hippies for free weed and glove free love at Woodstock. Every Botcon has a theme from the Transformers mythos, this year we return to the 90's generation 2. What stands out the most with G2 is the color redecos of the toys. This years Botcon box set featured: Autobot Spark a redecoe of universe Inferno, Autobot Streetstar aka Streetwise a redecoe of universe Prowl, Decepticon Clench a redecoe of universe Onslaught. The Clench figure received a new head mold unlike Streetstar and Spark. The fourth figure in the set is Decepticon Breakdown who also received a new head mold and is a redecoe of universe Sunstreaker. The fifth figure of the set is the wildcard, a toy that was never part of G2...Sky-Byte a redecoe of energon Sharkticon with new head mold, he also maintains a Predacon symbol in his alt mode. My one favorite from this years toys was the Rapido redux another remold of the universe Prowl, but this Autobot gets his original head remolded for his new body. This toy is my favorite of this years exclusives.

Fabulous-ly G2: STARSCREAM |
The hardest part to doing this custom was finding that damn shade of pink. Thanks to Krylon spray paints and a lil color they call "Coral Isle", the pink chested Satrscream was on his way to being reborn and more articulated in a universe classics 2.0 way. My 2nd hardship with this custom was creating the winter camoflauge on the grey wings. Research, research, research your techniques when it comes to customs and designs that you haven't tried before. So after all those two set backs, completing this con was simple. Now that I have done this custom in a g2 style, I found that I have a liking for a lot of the toys and the decoes they used. Go figure it only took this transformer fan 16 years to look past g1. Another credit to the toy designs of generations 2 is one of my favorite features on current transformers...light piping, it adds so much more to the characters. Unfortunately neither do seekers. G2 Rapido (the 94 version) may have limited articulation and a hood (bonnet to the U.K.) for a face in robot mode. As for the botcon release of Rapido, he's got the look but no light piping in the eyes. Oh well you can't expect a perfect 10, but he's definitely a 8.75 out of 10. So the Botcon set this year wasn't as epic for me as others, but I got an update to Rapido and I was inspired to recreate Starscream in a recolor I had overlooked...which is one of the better toys from generation 2.
and here's the original "Rapido" in bot form....

Rapido and Starscream united in G2 peace for the glory of Cybertron.
How dare Botcon 2010 not recognize the glory of a decepticon such as I? Humiliated standing next to this autobot trash!
